Wyoming QB has surgery

Laramie, WY – Wyoming Cowboys starting quarterback Brett Smith had surgery on Thursday, no word on what the surgery was for.

Head coach Dave Christensen confirmed the surgery saying “Brett had surgery Thursday, the surgery went well, and we expect Brett to be back during spring ball.”

Smith was the Mountain West Freshman of the Year in 2011.  The native of Salem, Ore., started all 13 games his true freshman season, throwing for 2,622 yards and accounting for 3,332 yards of total offense.  He ranked No. 2 in the Mountain West and No. 33 in the nation in total offense.

Spring practice for the Pokes will begin on Monday, March 19 and will run through the spring game on Saturday, April 21.

Update:

The surgery that Smith had was on his right hand in the thumb area.
